cannolis and their locally renowned casada (Italian rum cake). Along with Shaun Donohoe, a 20 year Fisichelli's Baker, and James 'Zinzy' Martone, who has been with Fisichelli's for 66 years, Nina continues her family's tradition of baking superior goods that have made their 55 Union Street location famous for 92 years.
History
Fisichelli's was opened as a bread bakery in its current location in 1915 by Italian immigrant Orazio Fisichelli. Orazio married Lena Gallo in 1922 and she began working in the bakery. During the depression of the 1930's, Lena sought to help other immigrants by allowing them to use Fisichelli's brick oven to bake for their families. |
These families shared recipes with Lena who began baking biscottis and sesame seed cookies. Their popularity prompted Lena to introduce a greater variety of cookies which are still handmade daily on the premisis.
Orazio and Lena had two sons, Frank, born in 1927, and Eddie, born in 1937. Eddie, a respected and successful dentist in Nashua, NH, insists to this day on helping out at the bakery during the holidays.

After serving in World War II, Frank began working with his parents in the bakery. Along with the already established menu, Frank introduced cakes and pies and his signature wedding cakes, which are often requested by the bride and groom on their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries.
Frank married Muriel Beatrice Golden in 1956 and the two of them took over the business in 1959. Frank and Muriel welcomed their only child Nina, born in 1965. Frank modernized the pastry shop, operating it very successfully, becoming a local business icon, until his retirement in 1992.
Frank's daughter Nina, upon hearing of her father's retirement plans, decided to leave her career as a school teacher to carry on the legacy of her grandparents and her father. Nina and her husband Tim have 5 sons, Timmy, Jeffrey, Patrick, Evan and Max. In 2002, Nina's husband Tim completely renovated the facility around the original brick oven and added a nursery for their son Max, who goes to work with Nina daily. Nina loves the business and plans to keep baking for many years to come.
